The staff of ESD, 200 kV TLMSD, Puna II- TMPO, Tsirang jointly observed Zero Waste Hour on June 2 2022. The volunteers collected 50 bags of waste. The wastes were segregated next day to dry and wet before loading in a municipal waste collector vehicle
Re-orientation session was conducted in Board Room on June 22, 2022, for the officials who have returned to office from the Maternity Leave (2021 & 2022), LTTP; and Deputation.
The session was organized and imparted by HRAD and HRCS to familiarize officials with BPC’s current work environment and to help them with a smooth transition back to the office after a long gap. The session was very interactive as officials shared their part of experiences during the deputation, LTTP, and maternity leave. The officials also expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the respective offices for providing unconditional support, assistance, and cooperation during such a period. Furthermore, the officials suggested that such session is encouraged more as it is helpful for employees to get acquainted with the current work environment.
Human Resources & Administration Department (HRAD), HRCS completed one day training on Gender Equality and Workplace Harassment in 4 batches. The 2nd batch training was held on 27th May, the 3rd batch was held on 3rd June and the 4th batch was held on 6th June, 2022. In total 140 employees have received the training which was conducted by Institute of Management Studies, Sebithang.
This is to inform the general public under Pemathang and Phuntshothang Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag living in the vicinity of the newly constructed 21.55km, 33kV ACSR DOG conductor overhead lines with shield wire on Telescopic poles from 132/33kV Selmothang Substation to Pemathang Gyalsung Academy to keep themselves and livestock away since BPC will start test charging the line from 11th to 15th August 2022, and shall remain charged thereafter.
BPC shall not be responsible for any mishap or noncompliance with this notification.
Volunteers from the Head Office and the Electricity Service Division, Thimphu participated in the Cleaning Campaign along the trail to Talakha Goenpa. The event was held on 17th September, 2022 to raise awareness on the growing waste issue in the country while also promoting a healthy personal lifestyle and enhancing cohesion among the employees.
The participants collected around 15 bags of litter along the trail and took almost 9 hours to complete it. The Environment & GIS Division coordinated the event. The Division would like to thank all the participants for the effort and zeal that made this event a success. Kadrinche!
Electricity Services Sub-Division(ESSD), BPC, Yadhi would like to inform the general public of Sharimung Gewogs under Mongar Dzongkhag that, there will be power supply interruption for the re-stringing of ACSR Conductor and rectification of tilted 33kV double pole structures at Tshaburi village under Sharimung Gewog.
Bhutan Power Corporation held its new recruit orientation to welcome 34 new employees to the team starting from 3rd April to 5th April. The orientation was held at headquarter, where the CEO and the other management members welcomed the new recruits. The CEO said that the BPC is the right platform for young engineers to prosper in their profession. BPC recruited 30 electrical engineers, 2 electronic and communication engineers, 1 legal officer, and 1 media officer. During the orientation, Directors, General Managers, and a few other managers presented the overall working environment, culture, rules, and regulations of the organization.
Bhutan Power Corporation Limited head office instituted a new initiative called “weekly clean up session” under the instruction of CEO and dedicated one hour of every Friday afternoon for beautification of office premises. This initiative brings entire BPC team together as family to clean and beautify the office surroundings. We firmly belief that the keeping clean, aesthetically appealing and safe environment creates enabling work environment and improves the employee productivity.
Further, the initiative is incorporated to enhance cooperation, collaboration and team work among employees of the different departments of BPCL.
Mr Karma Chhopel is appointed as a new General Manager of the Distribution and Customer Services Division. He started his career with BPC in 1991 and has served in various capacities. He has a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the erstwhile Royal Bhutan Polytechnic, now renamed and upgraded to Jigme Namgyel Engineering College and a Masters of Business Administration from the Edith Cowan University, WA, Australia. Before joining the current position, he served at Safety & Quality Assurance, CSDiv as Chief Manager.

BPC Head quarter resumed its daycare services on October 20, 2023, with an enrollment of 15 children. To mark the reopening, an event was organized and was attended by the Management. BPC recently hired two skilled daycare facilitators for Thimphu and Phuentsholing. These facilitators will be responsible for nurturing and preparing the children for preschool once they reach the age of 5.

The honorable CEO presided over the inauguration ceremony of the foundation for the 132kV D/C Transmission Line from 52MW Burgangchu HEP to 132kV Tingtibi Ngalam TL LILO on November 22, 2023. This momentous occasion was attended by the Director (TD), Director (CSD), GM (CD) and GM ( DCSD).
The CEO also laid Sachu Bumter to commemorate the successful completion of the project without any natural calamities.

Salang Tendrel (Ground-Breaking) Ceremony for Design, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning, and Associated Civil Works of 400/220/66/33 kV Indoor Gas Insulated Substation at Norbugang Industrial Park (NIP), Samtse, was held on the 3rd of February, 2024.
The Salang was graced by the Honorable CEO of Bhutan Power Corporation and presided over by the venerable Lam Neten of Samtse Dzongkhang. The Dasho Dzongdag of Samtse Dzongkhag, accompanied by Directors of Departments and General Managers of Divisions from BPC HQ, colleagues from ESD Samtse, and counterparts from contractors, graced the event.
The 400/220/66/33 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) has been constructed to provide a reliable and efficient power supply to the industries located at Norbugang Industrial Park, Samtse.
In a bid to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices, the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) recently collaborated with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to undergo intensive training sessions. These sessions aimed at bolstering BPC’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, ensuring that its projects align with global best practices.
The IFC conducted two comprehensive training programs for BPC personnel. Firstly, spanning from the 19th to the 20th of March, an in-depth training session focused on framing Environmental Social Governance (ESG), delving into IFC’s Performance standards relevant to BPC’s projects. This training also explored gender dynamics and addressed risks associated with gender-based violence and harassment.
Subsequently, from the 25th to the 26th of March, another two-day session centered on FIDIC Strategic and Contract Management Training. This segment provided BPC engineers and project employees with practical insights into the utilization of FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
The primary goal of these initiatives is to elevate BPC’s sustainability standards and enhance its practices in Environment, Social, and Governance realms. By equipping BPC with tools for integrating environmental and social considerations into its operations, and refining contract management skills, the initiative aims to fortify BPC’s position as a socially responsible entity.

The Honorable Chief Executive Officer, Bhutan Power Corporation Limited inaugurated the newly constructed State of the Art Central Warehouse at Singye, Pasakha on May 10, 2024. The momentous occasion was attended by Director (DD), Director (CPD), GM (PD) and heads of BPC Divisions and external relevant agencies in Phuentsholing. The warehouse is constructed for Central Stores, Procurement Division, Phuentsholing for storing utility materials which will then be distributed to all micro-stores and other users in the country. The multi-level store (three level) is constructed using pre-engineered building (PEB) with all the modern warehouse features such as industrial lifts, racks and EOT crane and is designed for operating forklifts and reach trucks for efficient operation and management of materials. The warehouse marks a new milestone in BPC that will help Central Stores to efficiently manage receipt, storage and dispatch of materials as per latest industry practices and thereby will contribute to enhanced inventory management system in BPC.
