Bhutan Power Corporation Ltd. (BPC) is implementing construction of 1 x 15 MVA, 132/33 kV substation at Motanga and 132kV Bay extension at existing 132 kV substation at Kanglung and Nganglam to supply power to the upcoming industries in Motanga and terminate the transmission lines to Phuntshothang and Nganglam, which are under construction. The contract for the construction of the substation and bay extension was signed with M/s. Venus Controls and Switchgear Private limited (VCSPL) on June 28, 2016. The total value of the contract is Nu. 276.320 million. The contract period is 18 months (i.e. to be completed by December 27, 2017) and all out efforts shall be made to complete the substation within the contractual periods.
The substation shall be constructed at the existing 132 kV switching substation at Motanga in Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. Additional bays to terminate the transmission lines, which are under construction, to Phuntshothang and Nganglam and existing transmission lines to Deothang, Rangia and HV Industry and the transformer shall be constructed in Motanga along with a new control room building. The existing control room shall be dismantled. The additional bay at existing 132 kV substation at Kanglung and Nganglam shall also be constructed to terminate the transmission lines, which are under construction.
The substation and bay extensions along with the transmission lines under construction will interconnect to existing Nganglam and Kanglung substation (via Phuntshothang planned substation later), thereby ensuring increased reliability by strengthening the transmission system in eastern region considering hydropower projects, industrial zone and etc coming up in near future. It will also serve as pooling station.
